1 Button Yarn
A fancy effect yarn much used in America, in which a button or knot is formed by twisting one thread around another at regular intervals. A third or tie thread fixes the button effects. The thread forming the buttons is a hard twist two-fold yarn. A large variety of buttons are made, small, large, long and short. -

In glove manufacture, a term signifying the length of a glove. When gloves buttoned the full length, it was a literal term. Today it signifies the number of buttons a glove would have. In general, the number of buttons, plus seven inches gives the length of a glove in inches. For example, a 16-button glove is usually about 23-in. long. -
